Travel knitting

So I leave for my Chicago/BlogHer vacation soon. I don't have a single travel-sized knitting project on the go. And I'm not sure I'll really have time to start before I go. I'm still rather slow and awkward when it comes to casting on projects. Ideally I'd like to have a pair of socks on my needles but I don't know if that is going to happen.

But the thing is...we're driving. We're basically spending one entire day and very large chunks of other days in the car. I'm not driving which means a lot of sitting. It would be great do some knitting. But again, I don't think I'll really have time to do much before we go in terms of casting on.

How crazy would I be to attempt to cast on in the car?
