Do you carry a weapon: mace, pepper spray, something else?

A couple of days ago I wrote a post about women and self defense.  Though I don't carry a weapon I have thought about it, especially in the bad old days of New York's worst crime years.  I've carried mace and at one time pepper spray, but never a gun or knife or anything like that.

I was always afraid someone would take the weapon from me and use it against me.  I've seriously thought about buying a gun during a period of time when I felt especially fearful of crime, but I never got one.  

I'm curious to know about you.  Do you carry a weapon, if so what and why?
