Summer vacation

Is the summer vacation more stressful than school time if you are a working mom? Certainly the guilt factor soars if you have kids that are shy and hate camps or other organised activity. Why should they have to do office hours, albeit doing something "fun", during the summer holidays? I thought I had it sorted this year and found a soccer club for my nine year old, who has been the guinea pig for many an expensive holiday playscheme [we live in the British countryside where few subsidised schemes are available and those that are only last from 10 till 3]. Unfortunately, having been told by the coach that there would be at least a few girls there, we turned up to find not only no girls, but mainly boys aged around 6. She sat in a huddle as I backed out giving her the thumbs up.

I have three kids who are all very different and fall into different age groups for every activity going so that is three lots of holiday playschemes to find or an understanding relative. They would probably get on fine if they all went to the same scheme if it had a bit of arts and crafts for the middle daughter, some soccer for the older one and a bit of dressing up for the youngest. They're not anti-social. Just normal kids. I would be interested to hear what solutions other people have found.
