Growing Your Blog in 10 Easy Steps

Here are some tips to grow your blog in 10 easy steps.
Connect with other bloggers: This may seem like a no-brainer, but it's harder than it looks! The obvious ways are to comment on other blogs and reply to comments on your own blog, but that often doesn't seem like enough. Emailing another blogger is an option, but getting a bigger blogger's attention without appearing to be a crazy fangirl might be difficult. I'm going to let you in on a secret (it's not a secret): Twitter. Every blogger should be using Twitter. It is the best way that bloggers help promote each other's posts, every day boring thoughts, and answer blog-related questions. So... if for some reason you don't already have an account, make one today. And then add a link to your profile on your blog.
.com yourself: It's really inexpensive. It's $10 per year (sometimes less), and it will make it a lot easier for people to visit your blog if they're typing it in. It also makes you look a lot more dedicated to this blogging thing. I know some of you may not want to spend money until you're making money, but if you think you might be ready, you are.
Schedule posts: If you plan out your blog posts, you will most likely blog more consistently. Your readers will also know when to expect a new post. Check your stats and see when most of your blog traffic comes through. I know that most of my page views happen between 10 am and 1 pm, so I try to make sure a post is ready at least before 10 am. Go ahead and schedule your tweets once your posts are scheduled, too. You can use Buffer or Hootsuite for this.
Claim your blog on Bloglovin': This seems to be the most popular blog reader at the moment. I was skeptical at first, but it stuck around. Claiming your blog allows your readers to follow your blog, and you will be able to see how many readers you have (a number you'll want to have handy once you start accepting sponsorships and product reviews).
Create a Facebook page: I know it's really discouraging that Facebook only shows your posts to a small percentage of the people who have actually liked your page (10% maybe?), but having a Facebook page allows people who do not use Bloglovin, Twitter, or Instagram another way to follow you. Basically, it won't hurt.
Choose your niche: This is probably the most difficult for some bloggers, and why many of us end up in the "lifestyle" category. But your blog has to have a hook or something to bring readers back. That might just be that your blog is funny, relatable, or useful. If you're a master chef, a mom, a cosmetologist, or extremely crafty, you probably already know your niche.
Embrace Pinterest: I know, it's really intimidating at first, and it will waste hours and hours of your life. But I've noticed that a surprising amount of traffic comes from Pinterest, and I don't seem to be the only one. So go ahead and style your boards, install your pin it button, and make your blog posts "pinnable".
Sponsor other blogs: Once you're ready to financially invest in your blog, start shopping. You'll probably want to sponsor blogs who have a similar niche, or at least who have a similar target audience. Check out what the sponsorship is offering before you buy it: social media mentions, a highlight in a post, or a guest post? Check the blog's stats. Make sure it's worth it, because the last thing you want is to overpay for your ad space. Then, look at what the blogger is doing to promote their current sponsors.
Run giveaways: One of the easiest ways to reach new readers is to run a giveaway on your blog. I recommend using Rafflecopter, because it will do all the work for you. You can get your prize from your own bank account, by teaming up with other bloggers, or by contacting a company and asking if they'd like to give away their product on your blog.
Keep on keeping on: Sometimes we get in a blogging rut, and sometimes it doesn't seem worth it. I encourage you to press on, because it will take a good year (or two... or three) to see some real growth in your blog. It doesn't happen overnight, and it takes a lot of learning.
