Garth Brooks, out promoting his new "Ultimate Hits" 3-disc set benefiting breast cancer research, mentioned that his daughters are begging him to use his fame to pull strings and hook them up with Hannah Montana tickets. Why on earth would Garth Brooks be hard pressed to get tickets to a concert given by the daughter of the slightly less successful country musician, Billy Ray Cyrus? Perhaps it would be because the concert dates for Miley Cyrus' "Best of Both Worlds Tour sold out in minutes and now re-sale prices are going for as much $2,500+ each.
Many artists have decried the large number of hot concert tickets that manage to land in the hands of scalpers and have worked with state attorneys general to try and fight the practice to no avail. However, the wrath of parents of pre-teens denied has led to "U.S. District Court Judge Audrey Collins issu[ing] a preliminary injunction against Pittsburgh-based software maker RMG Technologies, whose computer programs, Ticketmaster says, have enabled scalpers to gain rapid, repeated access to its online retail system."
What are frustrated parents blogging?
Crazy Working Mom thought for sure she would be able to buy tickets but instead she's hoping her daughter is
still young enough that she'll forget about it in a week anyhow. I was pretty disappointed, though. Ah well...there's always radio contests. Maybe I can win some!
St. Amy Jane asks other parents to hold out and not give in to scalpers and tells Craig of Craigslist to "delete those scalper posts please" and then pleads:
In the mean time my little demonic angel is going to enter in the Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus Build-a-Bear Worhshop contest. Yes indeed! It runs from October 5th to October 25th.
We are on a mission folks! The mission is to find 3 Hannah Montana Tickets!
By the way if you have 3 tickets for sale for the San Jose show or the Oakland show… hit a desperate mother up!
Stacey063 at Parent Traps is on her own crusade:
Disney, wake up! Don't disenfranchise the people who keep you going! Do something to stop this! You too, Miley Cyrus (and Billy Ray!)
One desperate dad is trying business social networking site LinkedIn:
Can anyone hook me up with tickets for Hannah Montana 11/20 @BAC? (no snickering!) They're sold out (of course) and I'd like to surprise my kids and take them to the show.
Perhaps you can use your inability to score tickets to the hottest tween show evah as a teachable moment so the childrens can learn all about the economic concept of supply and demand.
The folly of the outraged parents is that they think scalpers somehow make people pay high prices. Of course, the scalpers (unless they have decided to become armed robbers) have not forced anyone to pay them anything. The trouble arose because the quantity of Hannah Montana tickets demanded at the the price set by promoters exceeded the quantity of tickets available for purchase.
Have any Hannah Montana horror stories? Demanding that the authorities do something about scalpers? Prefer to leave it to the marketplace? Liking the auction idea?

Tickets
If you could get one, the regular priced tickets aren't bad, but the concerts are not always in the closest cities. The worst part is that the concerts are often on school nights. Honestly, I think my granddaughter would go to Timbuktu if she thought she could see Hanna Montana. Where she thinks the money would come from is another matter, so her economic lessons are hard learned where Hanna Montana is concerned.

School Nights
Hadn't even thought about the issue of concerts for school-aged kids being on a school night. That seems to be rather thoughtless on the concert promoters part.
I'm currently hearing of the complaints of adults who aren't able to take off work to line up for general admission early in the day and wait for 4-6 hours to get in.
I hope a ticket fairy appears to allow your granddaughter to see the show.

no one is THAT GOOD!
I too think scalpers should be stopped. I wish I could go out to see more shows but I just don't have the money and my daughter needs to know that there is a limit and yes, sometimes we can't get everything we want.
HOWEVER, fair is fair and the whole idea of scalping/ticketbrokers should be illegal. Sorry to be so extreme but I just feel that the celebrity's fan base is pushed away and if it wasn't for us litle people they wouldn't be putting on a concert in the first place.
This subject really touches a nerve in me, if you couldn't already tell.
Me too
I share your outrage. It's frustrating to see hordes of well-off or well-connected casual fans filling the seats at a show when the hardcore fans and supporters who made the artist popular are shut out. As a Springsteen fan I've felt this pain on more than a few occasions.
Although I've supported some efforts to attempt to regulate ticket scalping I doubt it really can be controlled by legal mechanisms and that ultimately as long as there are people willing and able to pay more for tickets there will be a thriving market.
