by Happy April Fools’ Day! Though not an official holiday, the 1st of April is celebrated throughout America and western Europe as a time for silly gaffes and practical jokes. April Fools’ Day is yet another holdover from the pagan tradition, celebrated very close to the Spring Equinox and connecting us with the earth’s natural rhythm. It’s also related to The Fool in the tarot deck — that mercurial trickster of infinite possibility. In the spirit of the day, I bow deeply and doff my jester’s cap to you!
The Moon is in Aquarius all day, fitting for April Fools don’t you think? It’s 23% of full and getting smaller by the day. We have two aspects today: Sun square Mars: To overcome today’s short-tempered, grouchy energy, chant ‘Patience is a virtue’ to yourself all day. Avoid arguments and temper tantrums. The Fool
I've always equated the fool with Shakespeare's fools who so eloquently capture essence irony and inversion.
Inversion is the element that I most like in fools and jesters. It is a thin line they walk in order to call attention to the boastful, innane, or just plain dumb things happening around them without getting their heads chopped off.
The fool is a grossly underused cultural communication tool in today's world.

I agree! In Astrology, the Fool is also associated with the trickster planet Mercury, messenger of the gods, who delivers his missive and then vanishes -- before the head gets chopped off!
