Hats in the Bell-Fry
By mrsrkfj on November 30, 2012
Today Mother Nature is cutting up. It's miserable outside, a mixture of cold rain and icy streets. I am not looking forward to heading out at all. I'd rather work on some more hats. So far I knocked out two hats for Sarah using a pretty simple pattern.
Cast on 64 stitches.
Join being careful not to twist.
For the plain hat knit around until the desired length and then decrease every other row as follows:
Knit 6, Knit 2 Tog, around.
Knit the next round.
Knit 5, knit 2 tog around
Knit the next round
Follow this, decreasing until there you are knitting 3, k2tog.
Repeat until you have twenty stitches then bind off.
For the ribbed cuff, knit 2, purl 2 for 1 inch
Knit until desired length then follow the instructions for plain hat decreasing and binding off.
This hat can be embellished with a Pom Pom or another type of topping of your choice. I used sock needles to make the items for babies. For a larger head I would increase the size of the needles.
Which brings me back to the impending storm.
My poor kids are wearing whatever they can find from what survived last year. I perused Ravelry and found two patterns I think both kids will like.
For The Teen, this ear flap hat seems perfect:
The Boy has requested a hat based on one of his favorite shows:
