[Editor's Note: Last month, Lindsy was arrested for protesting the two-year prison sentence of fellow environmental activist Tim DeChristopher (pictured below) for his own act of environmental protest: bidding on oil and gas leases on federal land, which he had no means to pay for.

Lindsy's first-person account of participating in the protest and her reasons behind it is one of the most vivid posts I've read this past month. -- Julie

We decided to move into the street. I was outraged that my friend was going to prison for doing what was morally and ethically right. I was outraged that his trial was so unjust. I was outraged that Judge Benson and the U.S. District Attorney's office could be so adamant in the desire to deter others from following in Tim's footsteps.

Have you ever been arrested for an act of civil disobedience? Would you?

I was arrested for protesting back in April 2000 for being against the death penalty. I was handcuffed, bussed and brought to an old abandoned mental hospital along with 700 other people. I had to sleep on the floor, where there was old bodily fluids staining the floor. Eventually bussed back to jail. Held in a cell with 2 other women and eventually released. Had to pay $50 to get out and got a ticket for parading without a permit. Fast forward ten years and a 3rd party that was arrested that day, not part of the protest, sued Washington D.C. and we all won damages and the record of the incident expunged. Justice can be blind, but in the end it is up to us to take its blind folds off.
