Have You Purchased Ad Space on Social Media??

I am trying out for the first time, purchasing an ad for my website, a humor blog, on Facebook. I thought about purchasing the ad to invite people to become a fan of my fanpage, but am more interested in bringing people to my site. You can link the ad to either.

Since I have a goal to exceed the number of New Visitors to my blog to the level required to afford heat for my home and food for my fridge, perhaps some breath mints, I linked the ad to my blog.

There are two purchase options. One is to pay for the number of impressions, the other is to pay per click to my website.

Because I tailored my audience very specifically -- choosing people who selected in their interests comedians and authors who influence my writing, and choosing an audience in the most popular age brackets on my Facebook Fanpage stats -- I decided to go with impressions rather than clicks on my website.

If I had gone with pay per click, I might have extended the hours. But I have limited the hours to peak traffic times. Also, impressions are cheaper than clicks. Cheaper, as .33/impression vs .71/click.

Facebook recommends how much you should "bid" for your clicks or impressions. I decided to work within the range they suggested, because I have no way of tracking if they did or didn't post my ad. (Or do I???) And this is a trial run.

Also, I was concerned that if I lowballed my bid, they'd show the impressions when the traffic was low, saving the peak traffic time for people who bid in the top of the range.

Does anyone have any experience, tips or suggestions to advertising their website or fanpage on facebook?? Tales of woe or fabulous fortune?? I'd love to hear from you.

I certainly will, Denise.

They give me stats that I will be watching like an ebay auction!! I'll let you know how many new hits come out of it.

I'm also going to use the other other option, pay per click, to compare the two options and se which one give me more bang for the buck.
