Elizabeth L. Fairbanks-Fletcher is licensed to practice law in all New York State courts and at the federal level for the Northern District of New York. She holds a J.D. from Albany Law School (Albany, NY), graduating in the Top 27% of the her class with a concentration in Tax. She graduated summa cum laude from Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY) with a BS in Accounting. She also holds an AS in Business Administration, having graduated with Honors from Dutchess Community College (Poughkeepsie, NY). Fletcher is the CFO/Legal Counsel for the Society for New Communications Research, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) think tank dedicated to the advanced study of new communications tools, technologies and emerging modes of communication, and their effect on traditional media, professional communications, business and society. She is also on the advisory committee for the International Nanocasting Alliance, and she blogs and hosts a podcast at Blawgher.com. Fletcher was named the 2004 winner of the Capital Region Bankruptcy Bar Association Justin Mahoney Memorial Prize, and the recipient of the 2003 Medal of Excellence from the American Bankruptcy Institute. In 2003, she was selected for the Department of Justice, Attorney General's Honors Program (U.S. Trustee's Offices, Washington, DC). She is a past recipient of the State Farm Outstanding Student Fellowship, Guistwhite Scholar, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Award for Superior Scholarship in Accounting Studies, and All-New York State First Academic Team, among others. She is a former editor for Gannett Newspapers and publisher of Rhythm and News Magazine. She currently writes a column on New Communications Law for the New Communications Review. Her article MNCs Seeking US Market Representation Encouraged to Abandon International Accounting Standards for U.S. GAAP was featured in Accounting World magazine. Fletcher also worked at the Department of Justice, U.S. Trustee's Office, analyzing bankrutpcy petitions. She has been married to her husband/guitarist George Fletcher for 14 years. Together they founded Rhythm and News Magazine. She is a classically-trained (but prefers playing good ol' rock and roll) keyboardist / singer / songwriter. Her last band was called Drezdon Blacque.
