Flat on My Back

My afternoon consisted of a speculum, a catheter and a Spanish/Italian doctor with a French accent. Jealous yet? It's not every day you get to see the inner workings of your uterus. Besides the fact that I broke out into a cold sweat just remembering this procedure seven years ago it went fairly well.Today was another reminder why it's taken this long to jump back on the fertility-treatment-bandwagon. So far this month I have had one consultation, four panels of blood work, three vaginal (yes, I said vagina) ultrasounds, an annual exam and an HSG....more

Creating & Procreating: Are You Giving Birth To Babies, Brainstorms, Books Or Businesses?

I’ve been thinking about having another baby for four years now. Because I was the ripe old age of 36 when my daughter Siena was born, we started talking about it right away. In fact, my husband and I were so certain we were meant to have at least one more baby that I took my IUD out when Siena was eight months old and we were all ready to go at it again....more

What Matters Is The Person In Front Of The Mirror, Not The Reflection.

FOREWORD...Here I am, once again facing the mirror, with a shocked expression that shows disbelief beyond what any words could say."I'm fat?"Well, if you're one of my friends or family, or anyone who has seen my physique, you would ask what drug I was on... but there really is no name for the drug. No name, that is, other than body dysmorphia. ...more

On the Fourth Path Out of Infertility

It's disconcerting to be verbally attacked for the way I'm living my life.  It happened again last week. This time the particular individual was so intent on making sure I knew what she thought of me she left the same long-winded diatribe on three different sites where I've contributed articles or perspectives. She even invested the time to create new accounts on two different sites that required membership to comment simply to blast me.  Twisted, no? (Be forewarned: she may show up in the comments here, in which case she'd be four for four -- and bona fide obsessive.)...more

Need an answered prayer?

JMJ Do you have a prayer request? A special need?  Well, I spent all night placing a live webcam to Lourdes, France on my website, including a little mailbox to their prayer request email.  All kinds of weird computer problems kept cropping up, and I kept offering them up as a prayer, which did help to keep me from being annoyed.  Then... This morning I got an email from a friend who told me that today is OUR LADY OF LOURDES FEAST DAY!  Wow.  I had no idea!  That is just so cool... ...more

Processing Loss on the Internet

Sitting shiva is a Jewish mourning ritual; seven days where the family is surrounded by friends and community who bring them food and share memories about the person lost. The purpose is to comfort the mourner--and what better way of stating your desire to comfort them than by taking time out of a busy schedule to show up and be present. ...more
