Trans Health Care Is A Life and Death Matter

by Eleanor J. Bader from On The Issues Magazine Robert Eads was visiting friends in the late 1990s when he woke up in a pool of blood. His terrified hosts quickly began calling hospitals, clinics, and private physicians, explaining that Robert was a partially-transitioned female-to-male transsexual and demanding an immediate appointment. ...more

Do Schools Promote Sexual Discrimination?

School just started and so once again we are buying school supplies, reviewing school rules, and signing enough papers to cause hand cramps. As my son laid out his school bag for the next morning, he said something that surprised me, "Do you think boys should be allowed to carry purses?" I didn't know how to respond. Was he wanting to make a fashion statement or was he just doing a little research to win an argument? ...more

The Gender Bias in Statutory Rape

Near the end of the school year, a 38 year old teacher was arrested in the suburbs of Chicago, charged with having sex with a former student (who is 16 years old). In addition to the inappropriate sexual relationship, the teacher also supposedly supplied marijuana to the gang in which the student belonged, and possibly even joined the gang. jungle, interrupted

A few days after my last post our lives turned upside down.  My partner suffered a terrible kidney stone attack and as a result needed to pursue medical care at the local hospital. We endured a rather terrifying ER (if you can call it an ER which in the middle of the night with no doctors on duty would be kind of a stretch) visit that finally resulted in us learning of a potential underlying medical problem.  Plainly stated, after 24 hours of waiting the MD there suggested he had cancer and said that if we had a way to get back to the States we'd be better served by the technology there. ...more

If I Could Put Time In A Bottle

I finally understand the drippy and sentimental lyrics of Jim Croce's sappy little ballad; it's just that they have a different meaning for me now. If I could put time in a bottle, the first thing I would want to do is streamline it into one pill, as opposed to the numerous bottles above. </div><div></div><div>I took my kinder half to the doctor today; it was the first of many appointments he will have while he is at home for the next two weeks. ...more
