Healthy Choice Helps You Get “Better for BlogHer”

Summer is finally here, and normally that means it’s time to pull out those shorts and bathing suits that have been hiding in your closet all winter. While looking great is great, feeling your best from the inside out is even more important. That’s why HEALTHY CHOICE, one of this year’s sponsors, is challenging 20 bloggers to get “Better for BlogHer” with its help.

The challenge is designed to stimulate and help maintain a healthy lifestyle by replacing just one meal a day with Healthy Choice! Participating bloggers will be guided by nutrition expert Tara Gidus, “The Diet Diva.” With her fitness and nutrition tips, those who sign up can make easy and simple changes toward a healthier lifestyle.

At BlogHer, Healthy Choice will host a special event for the 20 participants. Tara Gidus will provide them with one-on-one nutrition, fitness and general health and wellness consultations. This will ensure that “Better for BlogHer” participants can stay on track with a healthy lifestyle long after the conference is over. Healthy Choice will also give away prizes at the special event and beyond for continuing with the challenge and sharing experiences with others.

You can win a spot in the Healthy Choice “Better for BlogHer” challenge and special event with Tara Gidus by leaving a comment here. Please note that you must be a registered attendee of the conference to participate.  *Please note the sweepstakes ended on July 13, 2010.

To whet your appetite for Healthy Choice and the “Better for BlogHer” challenge, here are some tips from Tara Gidus.

  • Eat light and often. Eat only what you need to sustain yourself for three or four hours, then follow up with a light snack to tide you over until the next meal or snack. Healthy Choice meals are perfectly portioned to provide delicious, calorie controlled, nutrient-dense meals to help you stay on track.
  • SLOW DOWN. Food is meant to be enjoyed, so slow down and taste every bite. Take sips of water and put your fork down throughout the meal to remind yourself to slow down. What type of eater are you – slow, fast or someone in between?
  • Move a bit more. Go for a 15-minute walk during your lunch break, walk up and down the stairs a few times or get off the subway a stop or two early and walk the rest of the way. What gets you motivated to move?
  • Need an energy break? Move major muscle groups instead of reaching for a cup of joe. Do a set of lunges right near your desk to get that oxygen flowing, supplying energy to your brain - a natural pick-me-up that is better than coffee! How do you keep your energy up during the day?
  • Get enough sleep! Not having enough sleep can throw off your hormone balance and contribute to gaining weight. How many hours of sleep do you get each night?
  • Drink up!  Even mild dehydration can leave you feeling sluggish. Women need about nine cups of fluids a day from food, water and other beverages. Do you get enough water each day?

UPDATE: Check out a few of the posts from the Healthy Choice “Better for BlogHer” Challenge participants, including the sweepstakes winners!

“I am honestly hoping to look and feel like a new person by BlogHer...and I think the first step towards that is an attitude adjustment along with my diet and exercise.....I'm ready for some hard work...here goes nothing!” – Love Life Family and Then Some

“As soon as the product coupons came in the mail, I ran right to the store. I stood in front of that freezer case for a good 15 minutes trying to decide what meals I wanted. Do you know that you could go 90 days without ever eating the same Healthy Choice meal twice? That's a lot of choices my friend.” – The Coupon Goddess

“So, needless to say I am stoked to do this. I eat Healthy Choice frozen meals anyway and my husband is obsessed with the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers. Oh my goodness does he love those and now, I do too!  Beyond that, I am excited to work with Healthy Choice and with Tara to really work on finding out how to eat healthier and incorporate better habits into my life. I am really happy to do this!” – Pink Vanilla Cupcakes

I would love to be a part of this. I have just gotten back to holding myself accountable for eating better, exercising more and encouraging my family to do the same.

This would be a tremendous opportunity and I'd love to be considered.

I would love to be one of the 20 participants. I am in the process of some major revamping of my lifestyle for the 2nd time. I went through 3 years of chronic pain and many surgeries and I'm getting back on track now that I am pain free.

I'm also training for a half marathon in October. The one part of the equation I'm struggling with is the nutrition. This is just what I need. I'm documenting my journey so that others can learn from my journey.

I had a baby 7 months ago and have been slowly battling the pregnancy pounds to get back into shape. Just 2 years ago, I ran a marathon, but 2 months ago, I had not been able to run 3 miles straight. Last weekend, however, I completed my first 5k since the birth of my baby boy.

My fitness is on track. Now I need to meet my other goal, which is getting my nutrition on track. Participating in this opportunity would be a personal motivator for me. However, I would hope that I could also inspire other new moms to follow suit.

And I've already started...had a Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers for lunch (Cajun style chicken & shrimp). But I didn't make it to the gym this morning in this horrible heat!

I would really love to be a part of the Better for BlogHer challenge. I am already working my way to a better me and the cafe steamers have been a big part of helping to keep me on track. I love the convenience of these tasty, filling & nutritious meals. Currently I'm down 7 lbs. & want another 8+ gone before BlogHer! Being a part of this challenge is just what I need to make me be and stay accountable. It's easier to slip up if you are on your own. Blogher is 4 weeks away, a reachable goal in sight. I know that having the support of being a part of this challenge will most definitely motivate me to stay on track, and keep my goals of a healthier me in focus.

As a former PE teacher, eating healthy has always been an important part of my life as well as teaching others to do so. However, after having my last child, and staying home to take care of all 3 of my children, taking care of them is exactly what I am doing. Just not me.
I know that Healthy Choice meals are not only good for me and taste great, but are a way that I can start eating better without having to do much thought or planning.
I think that the "Better for BlogHer" challenge would be a great fit for me. Just answering the questions above has gotten me excited to start making a change!!

I would love to have the chance to have one-on-one nutrition, fitness and general health and wellness consultations with Healthy Choice.

I have PKD (polycystic kidney disease). At my doctor's appointment last week, I was told I must focus on losing more weight before I reach end-stage renal failure.

The nutrition and fitness consultations would be a great way to help me get motivated for the long journey.

Ever since I turned "the new 30" this year, I've been slowly turning around my bad habits to get back to a healthy lifestyle. One thing I've noticed is that it's easier if I have a "community" so I can't wait to see what tips/hints I can get from Tara.

I would love this opportunity. I'm so busy, and so stressed out, that I tend to not think about myself. It's not easy raising an autistic child. Now that it is summer, I have both kids, and most days am only concerned about them.

I lost 20 pounds last year, and my weight loss has stalled out since then. I need to lose at least another 25 to be at a healthy weight - I could really use the help!

I also recently starting running again, training for the BlogHer 5K. This would be a perfect addition to my goals for living healthier!

As a first-time Blogher attendee, I want to make a great first impression by looking healthy and feeling fit so I'll be ready to take on all that Blogher and NYC has to offer!
As a mom, nurse, and talk show host, I encourage others to eat healthy and be active, but I have to confess, I don't always succeed in those areas myself. Would love to see how Healthy Choice can help out!
