As you’re making your holiday list this year, consider giving a gift that will help your special someone work out the kinks and feel more relaxed. At The Professional Hypochondriac, we’re all about the benefits of massage therapy. Here are some ways you can give the gift of massage all year long. We recommend buying an extra one for yourself – after all, what’s more stressful than holiday shopping?

Original Jacknobber II
amazon.com
About $9

This little jumping jack-looking device is perfect to throw in your bag and have ready to go at the first sign of tension. We love that it comes in holiday red and makes for a perfect stocking stuffer – especially at a price that’s under ten dollars. It packs a lot of punch for its small size and is very helpful for digging in those tight spots. However, you’ll need a willing helper for those hard-to-reach areas. Co-workers would love this from their Secret Santa to keep at their desk.

Original Backnobber II
walmart.com, backnobber-store.com
About $30

Cousin to the Jacknobber is the Backnobber, designed specifically to reach those impossible areas where stress and tightness like to congregate. The “S” shape design takes a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it, you can zero in on those problem areas.

Thera Cane
Brookstone
$35.50

How cute would this be if you wrapped some red ribbon around it to look like a candy cane? The Thera Cane is a perfect gift for a loved one who’s a little more bent over than usual these days. It’s a self-massage tool that works a lot like the Jacknobber, but has a few more angles to it with the varying grips. Loud moaning is perfectly acceptable since this can be used in your own home. I know one women who keeps this stashed under her sofa.

Original Body Stick
ebay.com, many sports supply stores
About $40

The Body Stick is a massage therapy tool used by many chiropractors and physical therapists. The beads in the center of the stick knead muscles as they roll them out like a ball of dough. Many athletes keep this stick in their gym bag to relieve knots after a tough workout. It works great on legs and shoulders but is a little hard to manage on your own back. You may be “kneaded” to help your loved one get those hard to reach areas.

Of course, a gift certificate for a one hour massage at a local spa or sports club is also a great holiday gift. Look for local on-line coupons to find deals in your area.
