There is one undeniable silver lining to being in your twenties -- you're young and beautiful, naturally. So enjoy it every minute of it.
While looks do fade over time, there's hope! If you start taking care of yourself now, you can remain stunning well into your elderly years. I'm not exaggerating: I come prepared with proof that you can stay hot into your later years.
This is Raquel Welch. She is -- I kid you not -- 74 years old. I plan on being that smoking hot at 74 if there's anything I can do about it. And, wait, there is something you can do about it. In fact, we've outlined 15 things you can do below.
So here's a few healthy habits you can start putting into place now to keep you looking young and beautiful well into your golden years!
1. Wear Eye and Hand Cream
Women show signs of aging first around their eyes and on their hands. So moisturize! Get a good eye cream -- it's worth the money. Sleep with hydrating mittens on if you must! But target those areas first and foremost and do not skimp. It's much easier to prevent wrinkles than it is to get rid of them.
2. Incorporate Sunscreen into Your Daily Routine
Have a day cream with SPF that you put on before anything else in the morning. Your makeup should, if possible, contain some SPF. Always carry a lip balm with SPF. Seeing a pattern? The more SPF the better. Twenty-somethings can't get enough of it!
3. Eat Well
This sounds simple, but weaning off the fast-food-and-cupcake diet is easier said than done. Start to treat your insides the way you treat your outside with nothing but the best. This means eating more vegetables and whole grains and incorporating healthy fats into your diet, such as almonds and avocados. You'll be surprised at how quickly you start feeling better and more energized.
4. Have a Well-Rounded Workout Routine
It's great to work out, period. But if you really want to start promoting healthy habits, vary your routine. Make sure you get enough strength training in addition to your cardio workouts, and include core and flexibility classes. Yoga too calm for you? Try Pilates or a Barre class. But after all that working out, make sure to stretch it out. It will help you stay limber and graceful well into old age, like this lady!
5. Schedule Regular Check Ups
Going to the doctor is a pain. But it's a necessary evil, especially in your twenties when your life is in constant flux. Make sure you have a regular physician, gynecologist, eye doctor if you need one, and dermatologist that you consult if possible. Health insurance is mandatory now, might as well take advantage of it!
6. Take Care of Your Teeth
You only get one set, and I just can't imagine being able to pull off dentures. So take care of your teeth! Floss daily, get a good electric toothbrush, and use the Listerine that burns. That means it's working. Seriously!
7. Start an Outdoor Hobby
Gardening, biking, swimming, tennis, frisbee, fishing, beach volleyball, kayaking, surfing, hiking, jogging, kickball. The list goes on and on. Find an outdoor activity you like and dive right into it. Do it well and do it often. This will keep you living a fit, healthy lifestyle well into your later years.
8. Take Off All Your Makeup at Night
I know it's tempting to just crash in bed after a long night, but try to take off your makeup whenever possible. Raccoon eyes are never sexy, and it doesn't help your "fighting the crow's feet" cause.
9. Have a Night Cream
The second places women show signs of aging is on their necks and foreheads. Start using night cream, and don't neglect your neck! If you can target the lines on your forehead with a serum every night as well, even better.
10. Stop Worrying so Much
Worrying is pointless. Like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but doesn't get you anywhere. You're gonna drive yourself crazy if you're up every night until 3am analyzing every little thing. Instead, try to live in the present and devote your energies to what you can control for a much healthier lifestyle in the long run.
11. Drink More Water
Especially instead of other things, such as soda. You're supposed to get 8 cups a day. And if you're working out, you need extra hydration. Plus, it's good for you!
