Help! I Have the Post-Christmas Blues!
By Mouthy Housewives on January 09, 2013
Dear Mouthy Housewives,
I am one of those people who loves Christmas. I start looking forward to it in November, and my family and I do many projects together in anticipation. The house is decorated, the tree is set up, the cookies are baking. It’s my favorite time of the year.
Except now it’s over, and I’m feeling really sad. We got rid of the tree over the weekend and the kids are back in school and it just seems like there’s nothing to look forward to.
Am I just depressed? I don’t remember it being that bad in other years.
It Was the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Dear Mrs. Claus,
Oh, I feel your pain. We got rid of our Christmas tree this weekend too, and I’m still picking pine needles out of the cat. Wait, that isn’t your pain? Hold on, I’ll re-skim!
It’s great that Christmas is such a wonderful and special time for you and your family, and I can certainly understand how sad you feel now that it’s over. You also may be exhausted. Decorating, baking, gift wrapping can take a lot out of a person, even if you thoroughly enjoy it.
But just because Christmas is over and we’re in the new year, doesn’t mean that you can’t incorporate some of the traditions that make the holiday so special for you.
There is no “off season” for baking cookies (The Mouthy Housewives accept samples throughout the year!) and although the kids are back to school, you can certainly plan some after school and weekend activities to enjoy together. And how about decorating the house in time for Groundhog Day? Why, placing those furry bastards around the house will liven up anyone’s mood!
But if you suspect that what you are feeling is something more than the doldrums of getting back to the everyday, it does not hurt to talk to a professional. Maybe this is something that will pass and you will enjoy a happy winter season. But if the situation does need more attention, then you will be on your way to getting the help you need.
