As I approach my blog's one year anniversary, I am spending some time this morning organizing my contacts and Google docs to reflect the changing nature of my blog. Digging back into the archives, I came across an email from another "mom blogger" whom I contacted not long after getting started about a link exchange possibility. Having read this blog for months and getting the courage to contact the two ladies who run it (they were one of the first I personally contacted about my blog at the time,) I received a rather pointed "No thanks" having sited "your not even listed on Technorati." Admittedly, I had some web address issue the night before with a glitch in moving to my own domain, but I had done my homework and was listed on the site they mentioned.
I recently read an article on a blog about moms, I daresay women in general, being our own worst critics and am unsure why that is the case? Now that I am in a position to answer questions from beginning bloggers I do not hesitate to offer as much help as I can even with a full time job, two kids, running Citymommy NEPA and a slew of other blog-related emails and tasks to complete. I can never in a million years imagine myself dismissing someone out of hand whose position I was once in and possibly being the person who discourages them from the wonderful world of blogging.
If you're a new blogger, I'd be happy to help. And if you're an established one, try to remember the words of Atticus Fintch in To Kill Kill a Mockingbird: "Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes..."
To answer the question of why we're so tough on each other...I can honestly say I don't have a clue. Any thoughts?
