With the recent devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti, many of us are feeling anguished over the people affected by the destruction there. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, hopeless and a little useless when you see the suffering of others struggling to survive and to make sense of this terrible natural disaster.
I personally feel like I did after Hurricane Katrina destroyed so many lives and homes in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in the States. I immediately wanted contact with my loved ones and friends in New Orleans and upon actually reaching them, I wanted to know how to help.
So for those of you wondering how you can help heal and aid the people of Haiti, here are some great resources for financial and donation contributions you can visit right now to make a real difference in the lives of our loved Haitian brothers and sisters. Remember, your contribution may be small but all the small things add up to great waves of compassion, prayer, resources and blessings to help those in need there.
As Emily Dickenson so beautifully wrote,
"They might not need me; but they might.
I'll let my head be just in sight;
A smile as small as mine might be
precisely their necessity."
Send the people your smiles, send them your prayers, and make any contribution you can through these wonderful organizations to send love and hope to the people of Haiti. Remember – they need you now, but they will really need you in the months and years to follow as they rebuild their families, their cities and their lives.
