Here's to the brave women who fight back
By Cathy Steinberg on January 19, 2013
According to the FBI, 1 in 4 women will be the victim of a crime in her lifetime. This startling statistic isn't easy to digest. Most of us would rather think it won't happen to us. The reality is we could all very well be a victim. I will be posting a series of stories, personal safety tips, and self-defense strategies to help you know what to do when it matters most!
A Central Michigan University Student is lucky to be alive today. Last Weds. evening at approximately 9:30pm a female student was outside the Student Activity Center when she was kidnapped at gunpoint by Eric Lee Ramsey. Ramsey is no stranger to violence or crime as evidenced by his lengthy criminal record.
Ramsey forced her at gun point into her car. He then took the woman to a home when her tied her up and raped her. When he was done he took her to a barn area to retrieve a couple of gas containers. He placed the containers in the car and started to drive, telling the woman he was going to kill her which prompted her to jump out of the car (smart girl!) and run to a home for help, the sheriff said.
Lucky for her the residents of the home (a very brave 14year old) let her in. Ramsey then doused the side of the house with gasoline, lit it on fire, and fled. Local police were dispatched to locate prince charming.
After abandoning the victim's car, Ramsey stole a sanitation truck, drove it into town (and because he is an unbelieveably stupid man) rammed it into a police car.
The Deputy got out of his cruiser and shot him before he could ram him again. His quick actions ended the nightmare...... and Ramsey.
Idiots never cease to amaze me - A short time before he was killed Ramsey found a free moment to update his Facebook status (priorities folks, we all have them)
This girl was extremely lucky. She took the steps necessary to save her life. When you are in a crisis situation, you need to understand you are your own hero. You can't sit and wait for someone to save you. You need to be brave and fight for your life.
I believe in you!
