Sparkle (0)
I used to use the holidays as an excuse to splurge on myself and my loved ones, but since having kids I've become that tired old cliche of a mom. I take joy in picking out the perfect presents for my kids, my husband, our extended family, our friends, but I can't bring myself to splurge on myself. Not even a little bit. I make my husband promise not to buy me anything. I return gifts given to me and buy clothes for my kids or practical things like a toaster. Buying things for other people makes me happy, but buying - or even receiving - things for myself just seems to bring me pain. Or guilt, rather.
And it's not that I don't want things. Oh no, I've got a bookmark folder titled "Covet List" that I add to, oh, nearly every day. So, really, I just need to get over myself and when my husband asks me what I want for Christmas, I should do as Brooke Reynolds of inchmark does and point him to my wishlist. Or give him access to my etsy account with my 14 pages of favorites. Or break out into my best impression of Nicole Kidman singing "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend". (Just kidding on the last one. Sort of?)
So, for the record, here are a few of my favorite sparkly, perfect for the holiday, but still somewhere within the realm of budget and guilt-ridden mommy friendly gift ideas.

14k Gold Reminder Bow Necklace - $55
Sweet without being sacchrine, I could imagine wearing this necklace as part of my everyday jewelry get-up. My youngest son is just past the yank-your-necklace stage so it's quite the perfect timing too.

Emerald Bloom Stacking Ring - $40
I love the two tone (sterling band with a gold bezel) look of this hand forged ring. I bought myself a very simple stacking ring from Kyle Anne Metals' etsy shop a couple years ago and I wear it everyday. This one would could go right on top of my old one.

Mum clutch - $50
Etsy seller yorktown road makes the most beautiful handmade purses, clutches and pillows out of hand-dyed linen. I love all of the clutches in her shop, but if I had to choose, then I'd pick this one. I love the off center detail and the sumptuous texture of the fabric "flower."

handmade cotton house shoes - $58
No, not quite sparkly, but definitely not your run-of-the-mill house slipper. We don't wear shoes in the house, and during the winter my cold feet yearn for some cute coverings. Normally these slippers made by etsy seller elephant and chick pea sell for $68, but she has two samples for sale at discounted prices.
Kelcey crackle-metallic ballet flats - $79.99
On sale at J. Crew, my only problem with these shoes is which color I like better. They both look absolutely edible.

Rodarte for Target Lace Halter Dress - $44.99
Inspired by 13-year-old fashion blogger/muse Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie, Rodarte's whole line for Target has a modern, glamorous Alice in Wonderland vibe that is both other-worldly and fun. This dress - a little edgy, a little sweet - is my favorite from the collection. I'd happily prance around at any New Year's Eve party in this dress. Too bad the awesome tights in the picture are already sold out.
Perhaps in the end, all I needed was some serious virtual window shopping because I've got a trip to Target planned for later this afternoon (Rodarte for Target: Here I come!) and I'm sorely (SORELY!) tempted by those rose gold ballet flats from J.Crew. (I've decided on the rose gold. I think. Maybe. UGH!) And maybe I can drop enough not-so-subtle hints to my husband about that bow necklace and it'll make its way here for a late Christmas gift. Could the receiver in me be cured?
