Holiday Survival Guide
By mindbodywell on December 06, 2012
The holidays are meant to be a special time of year to step away from everyday routines and celebrate the simpler things in life. But let’s face it; the holidays can also be a stressful time of year! The pressures of shopping, events, and family commotion can definitely take their toll; therefore I’ve put together a holiday survival guide to get you through the season.
Take time to care for yourself
The holidays are an excellent time to unplug from your usual responsibilities and enjoy some rest and relaxation. Making sure to include some time to yourself amid the family frenzy will not only energize you, it will also rejuvenate you just in time for the New Year. Draw a relaxing and luxurious Epsom salt bath that is also detoxifying or try a restorative yoga practice to re-energize.
Get plenty of sleep
With all the holiday hustle and bustle, it can be easy to skimp on sleep –DON’T. A well-rested body will help keep your spirits up especially during not so joyful situations like traffic jams and long shopping lines. Aim for at least 7 hours of deep restorative sleep per night, and a nap during the day if time allows and your needs it.
Cultivate gratitude for Family
Each family is unique in its own, kooky way. Whether you stay in touch throughout the year or only see each other during the holidays, make the most of your time together as you embrace holiday traditions and take a moment to appreciate these nurturing relationships
Prepare for the holiday season with a cleanse
Preparing for a month-long food feast by cleansing prior to, and following, the holiday events will put your mind at ease and help your body regain balance. You don’t have to go all out, a simple organic cleanse will restore your body inside and out.
Don’t Shop ‘Til you Drop
Don’t let the stress of finding a perfect gift on your holiday list overwhelm you. Instead try your best but don’t let the joy of giving overwhelm you. Your loved ones will care more about seeing you in a positive mood than they do about what’s in your shopping bag
So there you have it, your holiday survival guide. Have your own holiday survival ritual? Be sure to share it on Facebook or in the comments section below.
