Yesterday, my kids and I put our annual Advents wreath together. An Advents wreath is a German tradition, which I grew up with, and still practice.
During the time of Advent - the four weeks leading up to Christmas - the Advents wreath is displayed in our home in anticipation of Christmas.
The most traditional version of an Advents wreath is a round pine wreath, decorated with four candles and small Christmas decorations, such as angels, bows and pine cones. Plastic wreaths, while laking the scent, are also practical, as are straw of metal wreaths. Less traditional are an arrangement of four candles in a line, which can be also beautifully decorated.
Each Sunday during Advent, we will light first one, then two, then three and finally all four candles, sitting together, eating homemade cookies, and drinking something hot (hot chocolate for the kids, coffee for me).
I enjoy the beauty of the candles and the simple decoration, that makes a nice center piece for the dinning room table.
Have a blessed holiday season
