Last weekend while we were in town getting groceries we went into Canadian Tire. We found ourselves down the Christmas aisles with the throngs of "Saturday shoppers". I came across a door hanging wood plaque. We were going to buy it. But when I picked it up to look at it I said to Jon "That doesn't look so hard to make." As the ladies around me gave me funny looks. We had some of the supplies at home needed to make it so we picked up the last few things and went home to try it.

Throughout our renovations. Jon has been saving scrap pieces of wood that he thinks he can use for shims. We found a few that I thought were a good size to use. He took them to his work's shop and sanded them down.

Then he took a Dremel (some sort of tool) and made the edges all cool like this.

These are the rest of the things I used to make them.

I used the sponge brush to paint the top, sides, and groves.

It didn't take too long to dry.

Then I painted the words on with a small brush. For one sign I drew the letters on with pencil first and then erased it and painted in the faint lines that stayed. But for the other ones I just painted without drawing first.

Then I painted green leafy things

And gold stars

I made a few signs, ok quite a few.
Drill two holes in the top for the wire to go through. Jon did a couple of them but then I wanted to try. *Arrr Arrr Grunt Grunt* the feeling of a power tool... Just call me Tim.

This is the finished product. Doesn't look exactly like the one in the store but I like it!

Oh and one last thing, I don't know if you can see but I took paint and painted it on the groves and then wiped it off with a rag. It gave it a hint of that color as an accent. Looks pretty neat.
