It's been a year of austerity for many of us, of watching our pennies and depriving ourselves. But as the new year approaches, it might be time to rethink that approach and treat yourself to a few small luxuries. I'm currently coveting five things, all of which are intrinsically useful, and none of which is outrageously expensive.
Big, bold necklace. I love the one pictured here, from Chico's; the assymetrical stones give it the perfect balance of blingy and casual. Wear with your LBD and your jeans and tee. Regularly $128; now $112. (Hat tip to Sue at Laundry for Six for pointing this out.)
Plush gloves. Lands' End has long cashmere gloves in six colors with fun button detail. Normally $49.50, they're now marked down to $37.13. (Thanks to Mrs. Charlita for the heads up about Lands' End's great glove selection.)
Cashmere socks. Banana Republic's cashmere blend socks are the perfect way to keep cold toes warm; wear these under boots, or just around the house. Soft and sturdy and so, so comfy. And at $12.50, they're an affordable luxury.
Funky brooches. Fiesty Elle's funky felted pieces are a nice alternative to heavy brooches. I love the Emis, but the dahlias are pretty, too. $25 each.
Luxurious lip balm. Once a year I treat myself to a Fresh Sugar lip treatment; it's the perfect blend of light weight and pwerfully moisturizing. Now, Fresh Sugar Rose offer the same amazing moisturizing balm with a hint of rosy tint. Perfect for days when lipstick is just too much trouble. $22.50.
