Day 7: How do I balance my children, relationship, and work life?
I do everything at the same time, more or less. I'm always available to my kids. I work from home. They know they can interrupt me, but also that it should be important if I'm in the middle of a work project.
The kids and I share an office. We're often all in here together. Now, for instance, one of my daughters is using her computer to read about manatees and walruses, one is playing Scribblenauts on the iPod, and one is watching Dora. I, obviously, am using my computer to make my daily NaBloPoMo post.
I take frequent breaks to make meals or load the dishwasher, but I didn't always work in increments this way. Before having kids, I was a dive in for hours kind of worker. I was very productive, in an unhealthy way. I would go without eating or resting when I needed to.
I get frustrated at times, but overall this style of work works better for me and my family. Gotta go. Daughter is asking me to help her find something about the manatee and I need to transfer laundry.
