The past two days..but yesterday specifically was the first time since December that I had hope...
....hope that the snow in our backyard would finally melt
....hope that I won't have to keep my faucets on a constant drip at night to prevent the pipes from freezing
....hope that the girls will get to breathe in more fresh air than just what we get from the car to the door
....hope that this soul-crushing winter will end someday....
Yesterday it hit 60* here in Jersey, and I cannot tell you what a difference it made. Snow melted, sun glasses donned, thick winter coats were shed, and everyone had just a little, okay, a lot more pep in their step.
I flung open all our windows, willing the germs out of the house. Skip and I both got to run outside for the first time in months.
We brought the girls outside as soon as Emmy got home from school, and kept them out there playing until dinner time.
Sure there was still some snow on the ground, and the areas not covered in snow were all muddy. But none of that mattered. All that we cared about was finally basking in the sunshine after months of being cooped up.
Now, as with every Jersey spring, we're not quite out of the woods yet. It's only in the 40's today and it'll get down to 16* tomorrow. There's still snow in the 10-day forecast, and I'm not sure when it'll be above 50's again.
But yesterday, yesterday gave me hope.
