Bridging the chasm between employee and entrepreneur feels like uncharted territory when you're doing it (despite the fact that others have gone before you). I know I've done it personally and it requires a belief and a support structure to be successful. That's why I really liked this post from Molly Gordon - it presents the journey well.
I don't know about you, but I'm afraid of heights. And the idea of walking across a rope bridge suspended high above the water gives me the heebie jeebies.
