How do you keep track of time online

I don't know about you, but there's something about the internet...I sit down at my computer (just for a sec!) and next thing I now half the day is gone and I still have emails to return. I've downloaded those programs that promise to help you manage your time online by restricting access to the computer -- you know, the ones with timers that limit your time on Twitter or Facebook -- and you know what I end up doing?

Yep. I turn them off.

But! I have found the perfect solution...for me. I am limiting myself to 45 minutes online at a time, and this is the first time it has worked.

My secret?

I leave my laptop's power cord upstairs. Since my decrepit Macbook has pathetic battery life, all I get are 45 minutes of internet time at a time. And since I'm usually too lazy to go upstairs to retrieve the cord, I only get back online when there's an important reason to.

Hey, it's borderline ridiculous, but it works for me. I tell myself I'm a genius for making lemonade out of lemons. Heh.

What works for you? How do you limit your time online?
