ID Theft is a top concern. If your interested I recently learned a ton about this topic and here's a few tidbits I found shocking:
- In AZ, 1 out of 4 will have ID Theft. 19% of that is KID ID THEFT! thats 4x's the national average...I care because we used to live there and I have family there and we travel there, so I try to be careful with receipts.
- In NY, ID theft is 10X higher than property crimes accounting for $6B vs $646M in losses
- In the southwest, ID Theft linked to employment fraud is the rising trend (potentially linked to immigration challenges).
- In the South, its government fraud positioned as getting new "loans"
Above is all based on the reading the following reports: JUST PUBLISHED Feb 26th, '09 http://www.ftc.gov/sentinel/reports/sentinel-annual-reports/sentinel-cy2008
FTC's Presidential Task Force (and AG offices) on Identity Theft /08 report http://www.idtheft.gov/reports/IDTReport2008.pdf 60 page report.
With so much information widely available, how do you protect yourself against Identity Theft?
