How to Dress a Crate & Barrel Basque Dining Chair
By hometownbetty on July 01, 2014
Many, many months ago, we purchased a lovely mango wood dining table and chair set. Mango wood is a soft wood, which if you have children who love to play rough will leave a love mark on the wood…forever. I know with young children it’s inevitable, but that doesn’t mean a girl can’t try to make beautiful yet versatile chair covers to meet the needs of a busy family.
I started with a blank slate. Take a look at the photo of our Crate and Barrel Basque Dining Table and Chair set:
I also had to work with our beautiful light teal and brown tea cup and platter set, thanks to friends who got these as a special wedding gift.
Over the course of a busy winter season, I made:
- 4 light blue floral design dining chair covers
- 2 light gray, yellow, light blue floral design dining chair covers
- 8 white stretch dining chair covers
Because I made so many, the style choices are endless. I can have all white dining chair covers, white dining chair covers with two multi-colored dining chair covers at each end. I can mix and match for different occasions – a highly formal affair to a more casual relaxed dinner atmosphere.
If you take a look at the photos below, I flipped the white slipcover inside out, then placed the blue floral dining chair cover over the white slipcover. Because the white slipcover has light weight batting, it gives the dining chairs a Parsons chair look.
I’ve been waiting to share this post for months because I haven’t completed the slipcovers yet. They still need matching bias tape along the edges to complete the look, but they are functional and being used everyday. So what do you think? Did I accomplish my goal of versatility and functionality?
