While Chicago has many attractions and restaurants that only appeal to adults, it's also a great city that the entire family can enjoy visiting. If you're planning a trip to Chicago with your kids, check out some of these fun ideas families can do together.

Spend the Day at the Beach

If you're visiting the city on a hot summer day and you need to cool off, the beach is the place to go. Along with calm waters, volleyball nets, and plenty of sand, Montrose Beach also has stunning views of the city. Additionally, the park has a walking path, kayak rentals, and a food concession. Plus, there's even a dog beach where the four-legged family members can run and play.

Look for Free Activities for the Whole Family

A day around the city with your kids doesn't have to cost a fortune because there are many free activities for families throughout Chicago. If you want to learn something new while you're on vacation, check out the free admission days at many of the city museums. Some museums, such as the Adler Planetarium, are only free for Illinois residents on select days. However, there are also places like the Chicago Cultural Center, Smart Museum of Art, and Chicago Botanic Garden that are always free.

Don't Let Rain Spoil Your Day

Sometimes, the weather doesn't cooperate while you're visiting the city and you'll have a rainy day. However, that doesn't mean the day is ruined. There are many indoor water parks near Chicago that are open no matter what the weather is like outside. CoCo Key Water Resort has a lazy river, four-story water slide, large heated pool, and a spa. Or, check out Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort, which has a wave pool, lazy river, multiple water slides, and an indoor amusement park.

Grab Lunch at a Play Café

If everyone is hungry but the kids have energy to burn, check out one of the many play cafés around town. Here, both parents and children can enjoy healthy sandwiches, tasty treats, and drinks while children have fun in separate play areas. One such place, Little Beans Café, has tables set up both inside the play area and in a separate eating area. The large play area is set up like a village with a school, service station, grocery store, and more.

Book a Kid-Friendly Hotel

If you're looking for a hotel in Chicago where your kids will feel welcome, there are plenty of options available. At AmericInn Hotel & Suites Schaumburg, which is just minutes from Legoland Discovery Center, children under 18 stay for free. All members of the family can also enjoy a free hot breakfast every morning. Hotel Palomar, in downtown Chicago, has plenty of kid-friendly amenities including child-size robes, a child safety kit, and a welcome gift. You can also do some research to find recommendations for other kid-friendly hotels around Chicago.

The next time you're planning a trip to Chicago with the family, make sure you include these kid-friendly activities so that everyone has a vacation they enjoy.
