How I Manage Kids, House, Pets, and Work

In addition to working as a freelance writer and web developer from home, I also am a single mother to three beautiful and bright children, am co-owner of three dogs of varying sizes and live in a home that is over fifty years old and has seen better days.

It's a challenge to balance all of these things and still manage to have time for myself and my partner.  You'd think I'd have some beautifully orchestrated process to ensuring everything is done but the reality is, very little of what I do on a daily basis well-planned out.

I start my days at 7 am and I end my days at 11 pm.  During that entire span of time I'm juggling work projects, attending to household chores, assisting one at-home schooled child all the while ensuring bills are paid, meals are set and dogs are sufficiently cared for.  Weekends are reserved for bigger household chores and laundry.  Children are ultimately responsible for their bedrooms and pretty much aren't allowed to have extra privileges if this one rule isn't met.  Some days are more stressful than others but we all manage very well despite the stress spikes.

For the most part and from an outside view, it appears as if there is pure pandemonium at work.  In retrospect, it probably is but it works well here.  I go to sleep each night with a huge sense of accomplishment.  My children are healthy and happy.  The animals are cheery and full of play.  My partner and I are move in love than the first day we met.

All in all, chaos works well in this house.
