Serums to Keep Skin Swoonworthy for Valentine’s Day

By now, you must have heard of them: facial serums. I always like to say that serums are like little skincare specialists. They offer targeted solutions for different issues, depending on your skin type and needs, but all of them are fantastic. Ultimately, serums can help your skin tremendously.
The molecules in a serum are much smaller than that of a cream, which allows it to penetrate the skin more easily. You can get deeper into the layers of your skin to places a regular moisturizer can’t reach.
You can pretty much get any kind of serum these days, which makes it VERY easy to personalize your skincare routine. You can find Vitamin C, anti-aging, skin-brightening, and even acne-preventative serum formulas all at several price points, so you won’t have any issues finding one that fits all your needs.
Serums come in three different consistencies: cream serum (which is more like a cross between a gel and a lightweight cream), midweight serum (think aloe vera gel), and a much looser serum, which feels much more watery.
So how is this going to help you look great for Valentine’s Day, you ask? Very simply, your best asset -- contrary to popular belief -- is your skin. I have never heard anyone say, “Her makeup looks so great!” when bragging about a special someone. I have, however, heard a LOT of bragging to anyone who is listening about how great her skin looks, and that she doesn’t even need makeup.
That is the goal: to get to what Philosophy skincare once dubbed “makeup-optional skin.” When used correctly, serums can help you minimize a multitude of sins (dehydration, looking tired, acne ... you name it).
If you aren’t familiar with serums, the best idea is to get yourself a facial at a nearby spa -- nothing fancy, just something where an esthetician can evaluate your skin and go from there.
Some of my favorites in the serum department:
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: Hands down, the best way to banish any kind of acne, especially the under surface cystic kind.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair: There is a reason why this has been around forever, It’s amazing. It helps continuously repair the appearance of past damage caused by every major environmental assault. Use this early and often.
Avon ANew Genics Treatment Concentrate: Soften your expression lines with an anti-aging dynamo from Avon. More than half the price of department store serums, this product has the technology and research to back up its claims.
Pevonia Spa Clinica Wrinkle Plus: This serum is pure retinol. Its lighter consistency helps reduce visible pores; smooth and resurface your skin; and even out your skin tone.
