How to Wear Boots in Summer

I own loads of pumps and sandals, but consider boots to be my favorite type of shoe. This is partially due to the fact that I am much comfier when I can wear socks, and boots make that possible. But more than that, I feel my sassiest and sexiest when I’m wearing a fabulous pair of tall, shapely, heeled boots.
However, wearing boots can be a bit tricky during the summer months. And since I don’t want to look all summer-on-top, winter-on-bottom I’ve been giving some thought to how I can keep my boot-based looks seasonally appropriate.
1. Short boots: Tall boots rule my world, but shorter ones are automatically more summery since they cover less leg. There are loads of ankle and mid-calf options out there right now, and they pair beautifully with shorts, flirty floral frocks, or any outfit that's got a hint of rock-star to it.
2. Light-colored boots: Many, MANY of my boots are black. Black booties may be seasonally appropriate, but I probably won’t pull on my knee-high black pairs this summer. Instead, I’ll opt for grays and tans, which keep the overall look lighter. Wear them with anything denim, lightweight skirts, or Western-themed ensembles. Speaking of which ...
3. Cowgirl boots: Cowgirls continue cowgirling all winter long, but it’s during spring and summer that cowgirl-wannabes like me feel most comfortable donning our Western garb. Boots included. And cowgirl boots go beautifully with skirts, dresses, shorts, and all manner of lightweight summer attire.
4. Perforated boots: This style was trendy last summer, and although there are fewer options for sale right now they're well worth seeking. Tall perforated boots in lightweight, light-colored suede or leather are fantastic for warm-weather wear. Perforation allows some breeze to pass through the boot shaft, but you're still covered. I wear mine with casual, boho, or edgy looks.
Some women can’t imagine covering their toes when it’s warm outside, but others jump at any chance to don closed footwear during the summer months. It rains, there’s wind, offices are air conditioned to the point of causing frostbite. And if you worry about the state of your pedicure or the amount of stubble on your legs, boots can provide a welcome respite!
Will you be wearing boots this summer? If so, do you agree that shorter and/or lighter is the way to go? Or are you happy to wear big black boots year-round? Have you bought any new boots expressly for summer wear?
