I can remember it being the summer before my sophomore year in high school. I would make sure that I wasn't doing chores or anything that would take my attention away from Days of our Lives at 12pm. Then, when that was over, I would go on about my way. Until, Passions started. Then, I got hooked on Passions. That didn't last long because come one 1pm and I was ready to lay in the sun or play online, you know, anything I wanted. I decided it wasn't for me and I would just stick to good ole "Days" :)...more
Our afternoons have felt undeniably sadder ever since ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE aired their finales. There are still times that we'll look at the clock during the 1 and 2PM hours and sigh wistfully. "What sort of nefarious plots would David Hayward be hatching right now, with that smug smile of his?" We ask....more
I have a long history with soap operas. My entire life, really, seeing as my mother named me after a soap opera character. As a little girl I would sit in the floor of the den and help fold laundry while watching my namesake on the screen. It was very exciting in 1987 when you had never met anyone else named Kayla, ever....more
I remember always watching the soaps with my Grandmother especially. She had a real thing for her “stories”. Even still today, when I watch the episodes it’s a comfort seeing some of the same people that were on there when her and I used to watch them together. Even though she passed 9 years ago in January, I feel like she’s still watching these soaps with me. It’s so great knowing that with Hulu I can watch the shows and remember my Grandma as I sat on her lap and watched drama unfold and immerse my mind into the lives of these insanely beautiful and sometimes sinister people....more
When these two best loved soaps went off the air I was crushed. And unlike a soap opera heroine… I’ve never recovered! One Life to Live and All My Children have been my constant companions since I discovered them (ahem) 27 years ago! The Lord, Buchanans and Cramer families on OLTL got me through my teen years, college, marriage, new motherhood and much more. I learned a lot about life, love and relationships (including what NOT to do) from the relatable residents of Pine Valley on AMC....more
I have a dirty little secret. And I bet it might be a dirty little secret that many of you out there share with me. My name is Katie, and a guilty pleasure of mine is watching soap operas. I know I can’t be alone in this. When I was in high school, I became absolutely hooked (I was a General Hospital junkie at that time). My love of soap operas evolved into a daily routine for me. I would return home from school, open up my textbooks to do homework, and turn on the television for my afternoon fix of soap opera drama (I’ve always been one to multitask). I loved it....more
After watching the promos for AMC I have to admit I’m excited to see how the Miranda and AJ storyline plays out! Can you say drama? With so much bad blood between their families, sparks are sure to fly! Oooooh I have so many questions, and cant wait to get the answers! Such as – who raised AJ since JR was in a coma and Babe is “dead?” Of course, Adam and Brooke are the logical choice IMO, but hey, this is Pine Valley, so you can just never be sure....more
I’m a total soap-a-holic. I mean, it’s really bad. When I found out that All My Children and One Life To Live were being cancelled, I cried real tears. AMC and OLTL have been part of my life since I was in junior high school. During summer vacations, me and my best friend had a routine. Wake up at the crack of 11, swim in the pool with no sunscreen until our bottoms looked like burnt biscuits, then by noon it was time to plop ourselves in front of the television to watch Channel 7, home of the soaps....more
Growing up I have many memories of my mother sitting at the edge of our kitchen counter, lunch in front of her, watching All My Children from one to two every afternoon. She was hooked on the trials and tribulations of everyone in Pine Valley, and still to this day loves Erica Cane....more
