I Don't Care About Kim!

Some of you saw the post title and are already nodding in agreement. And that's exactly why I don't care. Because you already know who I'm talking about. Because the world is so much more important than the Kardashians and their money-making publicity.

Kim Kardashian

I think mainstream media does us a huge disservice by placing such stories in the "News" category. Since when is how high-maintenance a person is, news? Since when is someone's paycheck (or lack there of), high priority knowledge for me and my family?

I want news to be news: What is the government doing to protect and serve us? What natural disasters are occurring worldwide? How are people helping other people?

I really don't want, or need, sordid details of someone's sex life. I could care less what people do in the privacy of their own home as long as it's not illegal or immoral.

Yes, there are things we need to know about. So later, we're not blindsided and say, "Where the heck did that come from?" Yes, it's important to keep an eye on Politicians, the economy, and headliners.

But our current societal climate is making the economy the Celebrity. There are no great performers, no great actors or singers or athletes. It's no longer about someone's talent or offerings or goodwill. Now it's just about their paycheck. And the bigger their money bags, the bigger their attraction.

Kim Kardashian can afford to be beautiful. She can afford to have her name in print every time I pick up a paper or glance through a magazine.

But where's the news? While reporters and paparazzi are busy making Stars out of those who have money, the real stories are getting ignored and even pushed aside.

It's almost Thanksgiving. It's certainly the season to appreciate what you have, even if it's not much. It's the season to go beyond yourself and what image you want to project into the world; and instead reach out to those less fortunate, in need, and desperate.

The only thing I see Kim K. being desperate about is making headlines. And that just makes me sad.

I keep a photo on my fridge, but it's not of her. It's not of any celebrity. It's of the first Thanksgiving dinner I had in my first apartment. My table was overwhelmed with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, sparkling apple cider, and pumpkin pie. That entire meal personally cost me 76 cents.

Why? Because I was blessed by people who wanted to contribute to my first "Big Holiday Meal". Because I knew how to coupon shop. Because I bought a candle that cost 76 cents, with tax!

I keep the photo up year round to remind me that even when I don't think I have much, I have far more than I need. I guess I'm more like Kim that I thought.

I wonder if I could get a sponsor to pay me just for being me? Maybe my family and I could be the official spokesmodels for Target or Wal*Mart....

Be blessed!

I feel the same! Remember when Charlie Sheen was all over the news and every magazine you saw in the check out line? UGH!!!!!!!!!! There is so much more to care about. I hope it's only the celebrities that are reading about each other. I hope the "real" people have more to do. Kim K., Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson are not in my circle of life. This morning on the computer headlines was the extravagant gifts that Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox are giving each other. Really? I thought it was the birth of our Lord....and wonder if they realize what they could do for the under privilaged instead?

The world is so much more important (and interesting) yet here we are still talking about Kim. She must be doing something right.

I really hate it when I turn on the news and it is led with celebrity entertainment. Or worse, news involving a celebrity gets a three+ minute spot while news about the war, an accident, missing children, or any other bit of news that actually affects me only gets 30 - 60 seconds; if that.

biggirlblue I often wonder if the media would stop reporting the salacious stories, if any of them would really happen. Maybe if people wouldn't get ideas to splurge, or be gluttons, or even hurt each other; maybe if the media covered better stories, the world WOULD BE a better place. Maybe.

That is a lot of maybes. Media has definitely given us more access but sometimes I wonder if we would be better off with less. Molly Jo

The Molly Jo reality show!!! Now that is one I would watch : )

Anntrea Ahhahah. Wouldn't be worth watching... "here we see MJ at her laptop. Now she's cooking in the (gasp) kitchen..."

Totally agreed. I felt the same way when a major news channel had a bit about Justin Bieber's new video, next to the Penn State scandal and an earthquake killing hundreds of people. It's a disgrace.

I love this post. I feel the exact same way.

I think it is so sad that news moguls dictate what we *should* be paying attention to; and that so many allow this type of "information" to inundate our lives. There are so many more truly important issues that we could maybe find a way to help others through; instead of basically being discarded because we already don't have enough Glam and Money. It's sad!

Can you hear my slow clap? I agree 100% and am so tired of seeing that girl on the cover of everything. I wouldn't wish a divorce on anyone, but her situation isn't interesting, and it certainly isn't headline-worthy. When she spends $10 million on a charity, rather than an extravagant wedding, I'll take note.

agreed! so many celebrities are just famous for being famous. I'd rather focus on what's important to my families safety, health and future. I really don't see how Kim impacts on any of those. Not News

Leslie, I would agree IF you spent much much more time knowing global news. If you are up on what wars are going on where, the famines, Monsantos latest bid to control our food supply, how deep our politicians will dig in our pockets in the name of Big Corporate, etc. then sure, go ahead, a little pop culture won't hurt. But if you have no idea who the president of the EU is right now or where famine is going on and why or who your local Representative even is, then you have major issues if you keep up on pop culture. And you would be one of the people I hold partly responsible for why our politicians are allowed to break the Constitution constantly without being stopped.

The icing on the cake was when her mom made the rounds on tv to discuss Kim's ending the marriage and oh yeah to sell her new book. Disgusting how greedy they are.

As unimportant as she is, I still think it is important to read the news once in a while and actually have an understanding of going-ons in pop culture. I think it's ignorant not to.

I knew her from being a fitness model and never realized she had such a different following

Kimberly Morales
Kimberly Morales

I know who she is now, but I still have no clue why she's a "celebrity"! Why was her family chosen to "keep up with" in the first place? Because they're rich and have gotten a lot of plastic surgery? That's like half of LA! They should all have their own shows down there if that's all that qualifies you to have one...

Karen probably a bit of both I'd imagine. She's just one of a million paris hiltons or lindsay lohans or any mtv cast of anything who get famous for no logical reason.

I dont hate or like her. She is fake yes even her family has said so and catch her in lies....life is treating her that way too its why she cant find real love which she says she sooo wants...lesson here be authentic be about something bigger than yourself.

Allison Currie do you think people are lashing out at her because they think she's a fake, or because they think she's a really well paid fake? - Karen

Allison Currie

I don't really like or dislike her but I find it odd that people are lashing out at her because she's a fake...most of celebrities today are famous for not much of anything...she just jumped on the bandwagon. jersey shore anyone? There are worse people and entertainment out there!
