I Got a Good Laugh at Myself!

The weatherman got it right last night. Just before I turned the lights
off for the night, the weatherman was telling his viewers that they
could expect thunderstorms to roll through our area in the next 24
hours. I really didn't pay too much attention to it, but obviously it
reached my subconscious mind.

I recalled this news report at
3:46 a.m. as I was awakened with a start to a terribly intrusive sound.
My first thought was, "Wow...I haven't heard thunder that loud in
years!" This thought was followed by roll after roll of thunder. Loud,
long, ferocious thunder.

I looked over to the foot of the bed to
see how my puppy, Tucker, was doing. He was looking at me with huge
brown eyes, that seemed to all at once be asking "What was that? Is
everything okay? What should I do? Bark? Hide?" I reached over and
scooped him up in my arms and held him through the rest of the
thunderstorm.

The storm only lasted about 5 minutes and then
quietly left. The final sound we heard was the chuckle that escaped
from my throat. I realized that I was holding onto Tucker a little
tighter then necessary. The thunder claps were so loud and intense that
I was actually scared too. Was that silly? Of course it was. But,
before you judge me too harshly for being a scardy-cat, please
understand that this was a really loud thunderstorm. I even heard car alarms going off. Okay, never mind. Go ahead and laugh at me too!

You are so right.  We must always give ourselves permission to feel whatever we are feeling... It's o.k.    And of course, there is always Julie Andrews to call upon :-)

Why can't we be scared of thunderstorms? I drove over a bridge the other day in the middle of a thunder storm, it was scarly. I was channeling Julie Andrews singing "My Favorite Things."
