Right then, on with it.
Ahem…remember that this does not make me less Canadian.
And I’m a good person.
Don’t judge me.
I don’t like pumpkin pie.
I can’t be the only one. There are others like me out there, hiding in the corners, afraid to admit this very un-Canadian, un-American trait. We need to stand united and demand a better option.
It’s the texture *shudder*. And the lack of any flavours other than the spices. Let’s talk about the spices – hello, nutmeg and cloves out the yinyang! And what the what is All Spice? Never mind. I Googled it. It’s legit.
Pumpkin Pie does not taste like anything other than a combination of spices. There – I said it.
The only good one I’ve ever tasted was in Barbados. They must follow another recipe. Or maybe the sun and snorkeling lulled me into a state of blissful forgetfulness - or the king fish (yum)….and the drinks (double yum)…I miss Barbados - and I got past the cloves & nutmeg overkill.
The problem lies with D and the kids. They like it. What’s a wife and mother to do? Suck it up and bake it, clearly. And herein lies the second problem. I like desserts. And watching them eat pie when I can not (will not) is dumb and makes me grumpy.
If anybody has the world’s best pumpkin pie recipe that is easy on the spices and has a more palatable texture and they would like to share it with me, I’m open to having my mind changed.
Because no one likes to bake and starve.
** D’s birthday falls smack in the middle of pumpkin pie season (who knew there was a season) so I should really bake him one.
*** I’m open to offers of returning to Barbados for another taste of their pie (and drinks and fish and everything else).
**** Apple pie is better.
PS. I’m afraid to try the pumpkin spiced latte.
