How can you be a writer if you don't have a voice? But it's like in junior high when they'd say, "Just be yourself." And I'd always think, "But what...

I don't know that I really knew what I was doing when I decided to live-blog the Golden Globes. Professional writers and journalists - you know, people who get paid actual cash money - were live-blogging on popular blogs and web sites. I was just doing it for fun.

It could not have been easier. I used Cover It Live to create a live "event." I pasted some code into a video post on my Tumblr blog, Jasmined.com, and was live-snarking in a matter of minutes. I had to use my Tumblr blog as Wordpress.com blogs like my personal blog, This Is Jasmine, doesn't seem to support CIL so well, if at all.

I tried to embed the live-blog here but, um, it doesn't seem to work. But it's still up at http://jasmined.com/post/2785434516/the-jasmine-loves-the-golden-globes-2011 so please read! A few stray thoughts:

  • I think some of Ricky Gervais's jokes were mean and on-point at the same time. I think he just proved something a point that Nikki Finke made on her live-blog - that while Hollywood likes to say it can take a joke, it actually cannot.
  • That being said, some jokes were rather out of date. I mean, who makes Heather Mills jokes anymore?
  • Now that "Glee" has won all sorts of awards (really, the awards season for TV started in September with the Emmys), has it jumped the shark?
  • Fashion-wise, I have love for: Piper Perabo, Melissa Leo, Olivia Wilde, Tilda Swinton, Angelina Jolie, and all of the women of "Glee". I also have some disapproving looks for Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, and Halle Berry.
