Yesterday I parted with the Inner Circle. No, I did not release some of my dearest and closest friends and confidants, however... it does, in deed, feel a bit like that.
What I am referring to is the 1981 board game, "Inner Circle". I haven't played it since probably 1982, and when I looked at it again, it just didn't seem as fun and exciting as I once remembered it to be.
I recently crossed the over halfway to 40 mark, and I guess some things seem different now. For instance, last week I watched an episode of "Simon and Simon" and I fell asleep. I use to never miss an episode. That night it just seemed boring. In my never say die attitude though, I continued my 80's mystery extravaganza the following night by watching an episode of "Remington Steele". I found myself cynical (There is no way they could have worn nice dinner clothes under their wet suits!), judgmental (He's too skinny.), and again... bored.
As a card-carrying member of Generation X, I am proud of my pop culture knowledge, my ability to have a work-life balance, and of course, my record collection. But I guess that there are some things that need to go.
It might just be time to put on my big girl clothes and take off the Wonder Woman Underroos. Perhaps the Yoda backpack should be replaced with a Land's End briefcase. And when people come over for movie night, maybe I shouldn't keep suggesting that we instead watch the Shakespeare episode of "Moonlighting."
Yeppers, it's time. It's time to step out of my inner circle. It's time to stop checking my candy for razor blades, and just eat it. It's time to call him NPH, and stop calling him "Doogie". And perhaps it's time to change the Fraggle Rock ringtone.
In the words of Marty McFly, "Watch me for the changes, and try to keep up."
Oh who am I kidding?!
There's NO WAY that's happening! A-DUH! I own "Chipmunk Punk" and "Urban Chipmunk" for a reason. It's the same reason that when trying to cross a crowded street the other day, I used my best Frogger moves. And it's the same reason that I wear loud and proud a t-shirt that sports the characters from "Schoolhouse Rock."

Somewhere in this house there is a Monchhichi, a Wuzzle, and a Lite Brite. And somewhere....there is a shoebox that contains the grandest prize of all - a mix tape that possesses the musical stylings of Scott Baio singing the theme to "Joanie Loves Chachi."
