Oh, my gosh have you ever made a Paula Deen recipe?
YUMMY! Should you eat Paula’s food everyday? Um NO! Paula Deen creates those good Southern Comfort foods. An educated adult should know how to fit Paula Deen’s food into their diet, right? Well, one would hope! Just, like an educated adult should know how to limit FAST FOOD in their diet, right? Once again, one would hope! I love McDonald French Fries! LOVE THEM!
Do you know how often I have them? NOT VERY OFTEN! WHY? They are not GOOD FOR ME. They are fattening and bad for the heart, probably why I like them! I enjoy eating out and to be PERFECTLY and TOTALLY honest I don’t tend to pick ‘the healthy’ dish on the menu. Most restaurants allow their cooks/chefs to make fattening entrees. I know, shocking! Go to an Italian restaurant and order even the ‘lightest’ pasta dish and you shouldn’t eat it all!
BUT, in the end, as adults we all make our food choices and I am glad we have compassionate doctors because it seems most people lack compassion unless it is them or it is their family member that is diagnosed with a disease and then they want ALL the compassion in the world. In addition, WE love to come up with many excuses as to why WE ‘couldn’t help it’. I overeat because……. I smoke because…… I don’t exercise because….. And your friends and loved ones shake their heads in understanding and offer love and support as you deal with your diagnosis.
BUT if you are Paula Deen, well, some Americans and Talk Show hosts feel the need to tell her, “You deserve it and you are going to cause others to get the disease with those AWFUL cookbooks!” Are you flipping serious?
Anyway, I feel for Paula Deen, she is a human being! She has been diagnosed with a serious disease that will affect her career and her life. Paula truly loves the food she creates. Imagine, a singer losing their voice. A painter losing their hands. It is sad that people feel she has ‘done this to herself’. No one knows her actual ‘day in and day out’ eating habits.
It is funny how we seem to be more loving about other people that are GROSSLY overweight! We don’t harp on them for all their illnesses? No, we want to try to help them and give them support, right? And why? Didn’t they learn the same things we all did in school? Overeating KILLS YOU! Doesn’t that sound harsh? Yes, it does! We need to have compassion for people and this includes Paula Deen!
Oh, and should every cookbook be a healthy or ‘get skinny’ cookbook? C’mon? Really? Or, worse, is everyone wishing that other authors get heart disease or diabetes that create cookbooks that are not low calorie? HAVE WE LOST ARE FLIPPING MINDS?
I think we need to take RESPONSIBILITY for our OWN ACTIONS. It is like people ARE THRILLED Paula Deen got Diabetes so they can say she is part of their problem for being overweight. Her cooking and her recipes are bad and it makes them overweight too. Here is the deal I made a few of Paula’s recipes on Thanksgiving. We haven’t had them since because we do not eat like that on a DAILY basis. MODERATION. MODERATION. MODERATION!! Her recipes were delicious and I will continue to cook her food along with many other cooks I find on the Food Network and trust me, they are not all healthy BUT and this is the BIG BUT, I balance the HEALTHY in with those wonderful comfort foods!
I wish Paula Deen all the best!
Oh, One last thing, I am confused why people are upset that she is promoting the drug that is saving her life along with discussing her life changes? Wouldn’t this be a good thing? Isn’t she ‘stepping up to the plate’ and helping people with the disease to realize that you do have to change your life? What is the difference between people who were way overweight, such as Marie Osmond who now peddles Nutri-system? Marie Osmond ate herself heavy, had health problems, went on Nutri-system, lost weight and now makes money peddling it, no one has a problem with that, right? Or Sally Field hooking up with the pharmaceutical company to peddle a drug for a disease she was diagnosed with? Really, what is the difference? Please explain? Is it because SOME Americans believe Paula Deen DESERVES her disease? Is
