I “Made the Cut” and Donated 12-Inches of My Hair
By HomeRearedChef on April 01, 2013
Well, I did it; with a commitment of a promise “I made the cut”! I went to the hair salon and did willingly gather all the beautiful long strands of my hair into a clump and had it cut—12 inches of it, in fact—and donated my long-time pride-and-joy to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. My contribution of love to a movement that campaigns to create free wigs—using real hair—for women that have been affected by hair-loss due to cancer treatment. Today I proudly stand with the many thousands that have already contributed to this awesome and charitable cause.
Actually, my hair measured, gathered and extended from the nape, 15 inches; but now my hair is very short—just barely covering my ears. However I have no regrets; and I would in a heartbeat do it all over again. And that is just how proud I am of what I’ve done. This is just a small selfless act I do that I’ll always carry with me.
By the way, I really love my new short hair!
But I would like to extend my sincere thanks to a dear friend, Elaine Plummer (aka elaineR.N. on BlogHer.com), for directing me to Pantene’s foundation and for fearlessly joining me in my cause (so I wouldn’t feel alone). Elaine, a woman already known for her warm heart and generous nature, has shown moral support, to me and to the cause, by cutting her already short hair even shorter (yikes!). And because her hair was not long-enough to donate, she has instead made a contribution to The Dragonfly Foundation, an organization for kids and teens; she asked that her gift go to the I’m Still Me program.
I’m Still Me addresses self esteem issues the kids and teens have when they lose their hair due to the treatments. The Dragonfly Foundation, first started by a close friend of Elaine, is connected with the Cincinnati children’s hospital. And I would also like to add that a friend of Elaine Plummer is certainly a friend of mine. *Smile*
I share this post with elaineR.N., who stands with me in spirit and action.
Thank you Elaine!
Note: Pantene partners with HairUWear who creates wigs for women that have been affected by hair loss due to cancer.
