I need a slice of Pumpkin Pie right NOW

Maybe you've noticed I seem to have been avoiding the biggest pumpkin topic of all... the PUMPKIN PIE. Sorry, I know all caps is bad but it had to be done.

Pumpkin Pie deserves capital letters. It's the only pie I love. It's the only pie I look forward to. It's the only pie that causes me to reach for seconds (ok maybe thirds.)

Smiling Boy and Girl Looking at Pies

I have to tell you that I'm not an expert pumpkin pie maker. I don't get complaints, really, I just don't get many rave reviews. Except there was one year when I was told I had to bring my GREAT pumpkin pie (two please!) to a squadron Thanksgiving party because the host remembered it from the year before. The dude was a little whacked, but in that good way that really old Air Force SGTs should be whacked. I brought the pie(s) and he ate a whole one by himself.

Anyway, my pumpkin pie recipe tends to come right from the pumpkin pie label - except I recall that there's one recipe that calls for you to change the temperature on the oven half-way through and I can never remember that. So, if that's the canned pumpkin I bought that year - I head to the recipe book given to me when I got married all those years ago. You know the one with handwritten recipes from my mother's recipe box? The one I really didn't use very often? The one that makes me laugh my rear off now (and the one that REALLY makes TW laugh.) Yea, that's the one.

All of the pages have fallen out and been put back in willy-nilly-like and a bunch of pages are missing - including that basic pumpkin pie recipe. Hmph.

Luckily, there are a zillion and one great pumpkin pie recipes all over the blogosphere.

You can go a wee bit crazy with the Pumpkin Pear Tart

You can make cute mini pumpkin pies.

The chocolate pumpkin pie, which would probably make non-pumpkin lovers happy but me - I want pumpkin NOT chocolate.

An organic pumpkin pie or a vegan pumpkin pie.

Simply Recipes has two pumpkin pie recipes to try.

I'm very interested in Alanna's honey pumpkin pie.

Here's that lower the oven temperature recipe and here's one made with fresh pumpkin!

When I first called for pumpkin links, I got surprisingly few pumpkin pie recipes. Thank goodness for Anne-Marie, she shared Pecan Pumpkin Pie and Kahlua Pumpkin Pie.

Now, tell me - what is the one and only BEST pumpkin pie recipe in the world? I need to know - I'm craving pumpkin pie right now and will have to try and coax TW into making one...

First - love the picture of your grandmother. That alone is worth it for me to try the recipe.

Next - heck yea, fresh whip cream is a must (though I will still happily consume pumpkin pie if no whipped cream is available - and I will confess to a childhood of "Dream Whip" and then "Cool Whip" and both are preferred by me over fresh... but that's a memory thing and not a taste preference.)

Last - hmmm I am not sure I'd ever consider a "chiffon" recipe to be the best pumpkin pie recipe but I'm willing to keep an open mind.

I will try it - and get back to you. (It will take me awhile, but I will try it.)

I don't DO pecans. I make a darn decent pecan pie but I won't eat it. Heh.

I think the idea of the pumpkin seeds in a graham crucker crust is brilliant. Excellent idea.

Even though I grew up in the south, I was never exposed to sweet potato pie - or if I was, I immediately turned up my nose at it because I preferred pumpkin... and pumpkin was always available in odd situations where sweet potato was also there.

Now, I don't mind sweet potato - but pumpkin is still my preference. And I don't care what anyone tries to say... there's a difference!

Hah. I think we have figured out the problem. The crack that lures most of us is something that you are immune to. :-)

I do not EVER want ice cream on ANY kind of PIE --- EVER. I will eat a slice of cherry or apple, if I'm at someone's house and the host/hostess serves it. But if ice cream is put on it, I won't touch it even then. YUK.

Also, I could confess my love of "fried pies" -- but I won't.

I'm actually enjoying myself, as well. (Which is nice, since I no longer have time to blog for fun, heh.)

Did you check out the recipe left in the bottom of this thread... someone is swearing she has the perfect pumpkin pie recipe...

I'd rather have the real thing but the occasional sweet potato pie as a substitute is ok. I guess.

Did you save me a piece? I still haven't convinced TW to make me one.

I, too, apologize for the caps, but I have the best pumpkin pie recipe in the whole entire world. It's my gramma's, and here it is:

Just top it with some freshly whipped cream and I promise you that you will immediately ascend bodily into heaven.

It's easy as... well, pie.

If I make one I make the pecan pumpkin pie.  I like Candelaria was well grown before I had a pumpkin pie.  Sweet potatoe is still my favorite.  I do love a pumkin cheescake, and pumpkin muffins.  If you make the pumpkin cheescake with a scratch crust mix some pumpkin seeds and use cinamon graham crackers YUMMMMM!

Now that's the joint!

I grew up on sweet potato pie and so didn't taste pumpkin pie until I was well and grown and so when I taste pumpkin, I'm expecting sweet 'tater.

I do love pumpkin muffins though.

Probably for the same reasons I dislike carrot cake.

So you don't like apple pie? Really? Even homemade with vanilla ice cream? And cherry pie??

Denise,  this is my favorite time of year.  I absolutely love a good pumpkin pie.  I have enjoyed your posts so much this month.  I, too, am in search for the perfect pie recipe and also find myself just following the one on the can.  However, I will be checking out your links.  Please pass on any more ideas you come up with concerning pumpkins.  This has been so much fun!!

I actually thought about making a pumpkin pie the other day. I deffintly will make one for thanksgiving. My favrite is a sweet potatoe pie or a souther pumpkin pie.

I'd rather not have cake and if I'm going to have to have cake, I probably won't eat much of the icing. A non-iced cake I'll probably eat the whole slice.

Denise,

Your post made me hungry for a slice of pumpkin pie. I think there are two types of people in this world, those who love pie and those who love cake. I am a pie lover.

Thanks for the links. Your post reminded me of the crazy pies I have made and coaxed my family to eat. Now I have a new source of pie recipes.

Good luck in your search for the best slice.

That's how I feel about it.

I got up from the computer and carried the trash bins to the street, cleaned the kitchen and made a pot of coffee... all in an attempt to alleviate my craving for pumpkin pie.

And here you are... reminding me all over again...
