There are things that are handed down from female generation to female generation: How to cook a pot roast. Taste in men. How you polish your nails. And of course......soap operas.

I'm just going to say it.  I miss Guiding Light.

Both my grandmothers, and my mother use to watch GL. Then my sister and I did.....and still do. Part of my ritual, up to even the last day, was to brush my teeth, put my pajamas on, then go to cbs.com, and watch the recap of Guiding Light.

I'll never forget when I was in the sixth grade and several soap stars were at the mall one Saturday doing some PR. I couldn't go, so my friend Jamie got her mom to take her, and she came back with a picture of "Rick" for me! I couldn't believe it. "Rick Bauer" was at the Florence Mall and I missed it!! And don't even get me started on how much I love Ross, and the OLD Cassie! Not that new one! Blech! The old Mallet -- when he was with Harley. Then there's Cyrus.....HELLO!! Love me some Cyrus!

But I know what you're thinking, "Missy? When are you going to talk about Josh and Reva?" Well which part do you want to relive? When she married Josh's dad instead of Josh? When she married Josh's brother instead of Josh? How about when Josh didn't really marry Sonni, but Sonni's evil twin. Then Reva drove off the bridge due to her postpartum depression, and her spirit showed up for a while, and then eventually she turned up in Amish country as a woman named Rebecca. But by the time she got her memory back and remembered that she was the mother of two (maybe three) kids, Josh had married Annie. BUT....Annie went crazy because Josh loved Reva more so Annie made it look like both women had died in a..... let's all say it together...that's right...plane crash. So Josh then had Reva......let's all say it together...that's right....CLONED. Then the REAL Reva got married to Josh but you find out that during the time Reva was gone, she had been married to Richard and they had a son - Jonathan. (Richard who, by the way, will come back later as Jeffrey, but not before, as Richard, he marries Cassie -- the sister Reva didn't know she had.) Now, if you'll remember, this is about the time that Reva turns psychic and goes back in time to see that she and Josh have always been together. Let's see....then Reva gets breast cancer and doesn't tell anyone except Billy -- Josh's brother. Josh marries Cassie -- Reva's sister. Josh gets involved with Olivia on and off during that. (Olivia -- who after marrying a good number of the men in Springfield has now decided she's a lesbian.) Josh became an ordained minister. Reva gets involved with Alan, and then Jeffrey. She recently married Jeffrey -- who faked his own death.

And now you're caught up from about 1982 to the present.

I'd have to say that next to my clarinets, my microwave, and BNL, Guiding Light might be one of the longest relationships I'd ever had.
