Fashion is fashion and held in the eye of the beholder, correct? Yes, to some extent, that is true. But what few realize, or acknowledge is that fashion just doesn't happened. There are several "tools" that help make a trend, for instance the designer that creates the designs, the stylists who tells well-known figures to wear the fashions and then the PR person make sure the public understand the garment is the new fashion "it" item.

But another "tool" is the image consultant. Image consultants, like David A. McKnight (who also owns DAMstyle), actually do more than just "dress" certain people for that moment in time to look good. Image consultants assess clients' needs and alter their lifestyle image, from dress and style to body language and speech. In other words, image consultants help clients "live" the trend for more than just a moment, opposed to a stylist.

David was actually kind of enough to share a case study to help us distinguish the differences b/w stylist and image consultant:

Case Study: MICHAEL ANDREWS BESPOKE
The Situation

Founded in 2006 by a group of young professionals with a passion for fine taste and style, Michael Andrews Bespoke is a custom clothing company based in New York.  The company offers a contemporary approach to traditional custom tailoring, with slim-fitting silhouettes and details, such as colorful linings, that make its suits pop.

Though the management team possesses broad business and fashion experience, it lacks expertise in identity and image development.  To achieve its goal of a reputation for premiere tailoring services, the company needed the guidance of an image consultant to leverage its strengths to provide a unique style consultation approach sensitive to the attributes and needs of its clients.

The Solution
Michael Andrews Bespoke asked DAMstyle to complete a multifaceted image and business strategy consultation.  Specifically, DAMstyle helped the company structure the ultimate client experience, from initial contact to long-term interaction.  The image consulting worksheets and comprehensive training manual we developed enables Michael Andrews associates to improve the in-store client experience.  In collaboration with Michael Andrews' head designer, DAMstyle created "The ABC's of Dressing for Success," an informative presentation for professionals who want to use image to increase their career success.

My POV:

David took that company and assessed it to see what they needed. He guided them to help their associates live and present themselves beyond the "store" moment. Besides, would you want a shabby guy tailoring your clothes? I don't think so.
