Insight into Alfredo Sauce and How We can make it Healthy
By cookinwithsylviadewy on August 26, 2014
Being a mother of two kids I have to make sure that I serve something nutritious and tasty to my kids. I am always up-to doing some research on new recipes and cook something different and delicious for my family. While looking for something new to cook for them I came to know about alfredo sauce a world renowned recipe named after the person, Alfredo di Lelio who first found this recipe while preparing a dish for his beloved wife.
This Alfredo sauce is actually a type of white sauce often served with fettuccine pasta. It’s basic ingredients are cream, butter and Parmesan cheese. Some add garlic and various other herbs such as parsley which give added flavor to it. The low fat Alfredo sauce is made by slightly altering the ingredients. Instead of heavy cream, thickeners can be used with smaller portions of butter and cheese added to it. It can be made protein-rich by making it with extra ingredients such as chicken and broccoli or any seafood.
When served with fettuccine pasta this dish becomes extremely healthy. This tasty dish offers healthy carbohydrates, fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals which are required for our body. Fettuccine consists of sodium, calcium which is required for bones and muscles, vitamin A is good for eyes, proteins and carbohydrates needed for body development.
Knowing benefits of alfredo sauce I tried three different recipes for serving something healthy to my family. I will be discussing all three here in this post.
Let me discuss first one which is Restaurant Style Fettuccine Recipe from Knorr. My kids loved to eat this one and to my utter surprise they for the first time enjoyed this different combination of mushroom with chicken. Alfredo sauce takes some bit of extra time for preparation but in this recipe I used readymade Knorr® Alfredo sauce mix which is easy to use and off course a convenient choice. It saved my total time cooking and this mushroom alfredo risotto dish was ready within 15 minutes.
The other two recipes Chicken Alfredo recipe and Easy-To-Bake Chicken were time consuming as these do not use the readymade Alfredo sauce mix. It took me some extra time to prepare the Alfredo sauce and then make the complete dish so my favorite among the three is Restaurant Style Fettuccine Recipe from Knorr.
