It's St. Patrick's Day and like every year, we celebrate this holiday, with my husband's family, by wearing green, eating Irish stew and drinking Bailey's. Since my husband and I are both of Irish heritage, we like to carry on the Irish traditions that we are so proud of.
That's why I wanted to share with you this infographic below, created by Blue Splat, which is full of cool information probably unknown by many people. For example, did you know that St. Patrick's real name was Maewyn Succat or that blue was the real color originally associated with him?
Each year, Americans spend over 4$ billion on St. Patrick's Day as 11% of the american population is Irish-American, according to the International Business Times. That's almost 34 million. Little wonder that the first ever parade was held in Boston, Massachusetts in 1737 and not in Ireland. Major americans cities have a St. Patrick's Day parade each year on March 17th.
Canadians also celebrate this holiday all over the country. Although it is not an official national canadian holiday, St. Patrick's Day is a provincial holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador. According to the 2011 National Household Survey, Irish-Canadians are a total of 4,544,865.
In Canada, major cities held parades annually, for example, Montreal, Quebec which is close to where I live. Seen every year since 1824, Montreal Saint Patrick's Day parade is known to be one of the longest-running and one of the biggest parades all across North America.
So check out the infographic below and see if you learn something new about St. Patrick's Day. Meanwhile, HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY and remember that everyone can celebrate this holiday because Everybody is Irish on St. Patrick's Day!!
