Interview with Mary Carter, author of 'Three Months in Florence' + Win $25 Amazon Gift Card

When I found out Mary Carter had released a new book, Three Months in Florence, I knew I just had to interview her about it.  I thoroughly enjoyed her last two novels, The Things I Do For You and My Sister’s Voice and Three Months in Florence promises to be another winner for Mary Carter.  In this interview, Mary discusses how she came up with the idea to write her book and how she got it published, among other things. Don't forget to sign up at the end of this interview for a chance to win a $25 Amazon Gift Card and two of Mary's books, The Things I Do For You and My Sister's Voice.  Good luck!

Can you tell us about your new book, Three Months in Florence?

Three Months in Florence is about Lena, a stay-at-home Mom who finds out her art professor husband is having an affair while teaching abroad in Florence, Italy. Lena packs up the kids and the dog and flies to Florence to confront him and his mistress. From there it’s her journey from revenge to acceptance, with a little sight-seeing and romantic temptations of her own thrown in.

How did you come up with the idea to write your book?

I had a chance to visit Italy two years ago on a whirlwind tour. When I came back I asked my editor if I could set a book in Florence. Once he said yes, I liked the idea of a wife going there to confront a mistress, and in a way deciding to step into her Italian life.

Can you describe your typical writing day?

I’ve worked other freelance jobs the entire eight years I’ve been writing. Because my hours are always different, there’s no typical day. I usually set a word count goal for the day and consistently stick to it no matter when I squeeze it in.

How long did you take to write your book?

I get a year per book but I usually spend a few months taking a break from the previous book, so it ends up being about ten months.

How did you get it published?

I have been with Kensington Books since 2006 when they picked up my very first novel, She’ll Take It.

Now’s your chance to talk to your readers.  What would you like to tell them?

I’m always so humbled and thrilled when anyone has taken the time to read one of my novels and then get in touch with me. It’s one of the reasons I write, so thank you!
