Introducing: From the 'hood

By: Denise Topics: Web site From the 'hood

We're really excited about a brand new feature being launched on BlogHer called "From the 'hood" and we're looking forward to hearing your feedback on this new idea. But before we launch, we want to give you a little background so you won't be confused.

The "From the 'hood" editor will be searching the bloghersphere for great blog posts by women and when she finds one she thinks you'll love, she'll head back to BlogHer and label her post "From the 'hood:" The teaser will land on the BlogHer homepage, just like any other editor's post and it will look identical to an editor's post. The magic comes when you click on the title of that "From the 'hood" post...

When you click, you'll see the featured blog with a BlogHer.com navigation bar at the top of the page. Like this (you can click to enlarge the image):

BlogHer From the 'hood

You can navigate around the featured blog, even leaving a comment if you like (and we hope you will.)

Here are some things to know about the navigational frame on the left side of the page.

* If you click the BlogHer text logo, you'll land back on the BlogHer home page.

* Run the cursor over the word "related" and you'll be able to click on links to related BlogHer topics.

* In the center of the navigation bar, you'll find a link to leave a comment on the From the 'hood post

* Go back takes you back to the page you were on before you clicked into this page.

* Close frame will re-open the featured blog without the BlogHer navigational frame.

I love it! And a few questions

By: Vered

1. How often will you publish these teasers?

2. Any criteria or is the editor free to choose?

3. Will it be a complete teaser - just "from the 'hood" title and not the title of the post itself?

Good questions

By: Denise

1) A few times a week, for now. If we feel like these are really popular, we may expand that.

2) The From the 'hood editor will be looking for great posts, posts that she thinks the community would be interested in, posts that meet our community guidelines and she'll be following a futures calendar and publishing schedule (as all of our editors do.)

3) There will be a complete teaser.

Keep the questions coming!
