Isn’t technology grand?

My laptop recently committed suicide, and ever since I started using my new one, I noticed that Outlook didn’t display emails the way I was used to.  Rather than having multiple fields (attachment, importance, from, subject, date, etc.) it only displayed two fields.  I was able to change the two fields, but no matter what I did, I wasn’t able to increase the number of the fields that were shown.

At first, this didn’t bother me too much.  Since I totally cleaned out my emails, when I loaded up my new computer, it was easy to navigate without these fields.   But, since I tend to let my personal emails accumulate before deleting or filing, as time passed, I found the way they were displaying increasingly annoying.

I checked out my husband, Marc’s, laptop, and he only had two fields shown as well.  But, since he is so organized with his emails, he didn’t miss the other fields, nor did he know how to add them back.  I spent hours playing with the view options.  No matter what I did, I couldn’t get more fields to show.  Since my office displays the way I like, I copied down all the settings there, and tried to repeat them at home.  Again, nothing worked.

My next step was to ask my office’s IT department for help. They told me what I should do to fix the problem.  But when I got home, I found that the box I needed to click at home wasn’t there.  This was the last straw.  I resigned myself to the fact that I had to clean up my emails and get used to this new view, because I wasted enough time.

Then yesterday, at work, I was on the phone and aimlessly moving my mouse about.  By accident, I dragged the side Outlook scroll bar to the left and all my beloved fields disappeared, leaving only two.  My office computer looked just like my home one.  And then it hit me.   As I held my breath, I dragged the same scroll bar to the right, and all the fields once again reappeared.  Success!  I couldn’t wait to get home to fix my home computer!

Have you had any technological issues that drove you crazy, and ended up being either a quick, little  fix or a fix that you found by accident?

Poor Marc does a double take every time I touch something technical. I have gotten better, but many a time he found me sitting in the dark because I couldn't get anything in the house to work :-)

My technological issue is my husband, he looks at a laptop, it breaks, he touches the cel phone, it breaks, turns on the TV, it breaks..I could go on about this all day.

Needless to say he is not allowed to look or touch my laptop. My baby is off limits :O
